"From the heart of the maguey... and the soul of the village."
First introduced in 1995, Del Maguey offers a collection of exceptional, rare and unblended mezcals created by individual family producers in remote villages throughout the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. Each Del Maguey Mezcal is named for the village from which it is produced. The only exceptions include the Crema de Mezcal, enhanced with 10% unfermented agave syrup, and the latest addition, Vida, created specifically for cocktails. The highest level of integrity is maintained to preserve the traditional art form by which each expression is created. Production is only available in exclusive quantities in order to preserve the 16th century style and quality.
Using natural processes over four hundred years old, the mezcals are created with only two ingredients: water and the heart of the maguey (or agave). The hearts are roasted over hot stones in a pit for three to five days, then ground to mash by horse-powered stone mills. This is followed by extensive natural fermentation in wooden vats and a slow process of twice-distilling in wood-fired clay or copper stills. The resulting flavors have been described as smoky, true, deep and warm.
Del Maguey Single Village Mezcals are truly unique- the most rare and pure available in the world. Since inception, the brand has received countless US and International spirits awards including Double Gold Medal from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2000, Platinum awards at the 2001 and 2003 World Spirits Championships, as well as an 'Excellent' rating and Semifinalist to the Chairman's Trophy at the 2010 Ultimate Spirits Challenge. In 2011, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition named them Distiller of the Year.
